hunter-gatherers became more widespread in the south during the Late Archaic Period (5000 to 3000). While it still allows for most of their nutritional needs of wild foods, these groups also presented the characteristics usually associated with prehistoric peoples of agriculture (eg companies Mississippian). These characteristics include the year occupancy, larger populations, emerging social differentiation (or state), the construction of monuments (such as clay or shell mounds), and the development of new technologies (eg , ceramics). Interestingly, not all complex hunter-gatherers developed these traits simultaneously. Scaling of Georgia is the best indicator of the complex hunter-gatherers were present on the coast during the Late Archaic Period. But despite more than fifty years of scientific research, we are still uncertain about the precise manner in which these communities were complex.
